Before Facebook, Twitter, texting, and cheap long-distance phone service, people wrote letters to keep in touch. Provide the person with stationary and encourage them to write to friends and family. If the person is unable to write due to physical or cognitive problems, offer to take dictation from them. It doesn’t matter if the letter is fact based or filled with stories from the past; the important part is making the person feel connected to the community. Even better, if you mail it, you might get a letter back!
