Whether formal with friends or informal with grandkids, enjoy this English tradition of light snacks and socialization. If the guests are adults, simple scones, tea sandwiches, or desserts are easy to make or buy. Hosting a regular tea-time or having a group of ladies rotate playing hostess, is a great way to increase socialization and give everyone someone to look forward to each week.
If hosting children, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (without the crusts, of course) and cookies are perfect. Even the tea can be replaced with juice or soda (Faygo Rock & Rye was this writer’s “tea” of choice and yes, I did put sugar cubes in it). What a fun way for everyone to use their imagination and play pretend! If you’re feeling fancy, why not go to a tea room and sample exotic teas and petit fours?
