Everyone likes to reminisce, but for those with moderate to severe dementia, the present may literally be unrecognizable; adult children may be thought of as still in school, long deceased parents may be asked for, and going to work may be a frequently referenced activity. Watching old home movies, the later the better, is great for those individuals who may have trouble remembering what friends and family look like now, but have lots of stories to tell about the past. So, if you family were “early adopters” of the home movie trend, dust off those old tapes and have a screening. You might be surprised at what the person with memory loss, at any stage, remembers.
